  • Hamilton Rod and Gun Club,

HRG would like to invite young/old/men/women/beginner or experienced club members and guests to come to an Introduction to Fly Fishing 101 sessions. FYI, women make very good fly fishermen.

If you have ever thought about fly fishing, wondered what it is all about, or just want to try it, here is your opportunity. HRG will have a number of experienced fly fishermen on hand to provide information and instruction. If you have fly fishing equipment bring it, if you don't we will have a limited number of rods setup and available for use.

This is a continuation of our initial presentation of Fly Fishing 101 which we started back in the spring of 2019. We will start with some very basic information and fly casting instructions for beginners and will provide information and help for improving techniques to more experienced fly fishers. If you already have some experience fly fishing and want to improve … come on down! We will tailor these sessions to whatever your skill level is.

Simply put, this is a friendly introduction. We hope to encourage and introduce people to our sport and also to get more experienced club members and guests involved and out to the water’s edge. Don't be put off by the assumption that fly fishing is difficult or expensive, it doesn't have to be either of those – there are some very good rods and reels which are available for reasonable money. It does take some time to get used to the fly fishing experience.

Don't be afraid or intimidated to try fly fishing, it is a quiet, fun, relaxing, noncompetitive and affordable way to get out and enjoy nature, and HRG has an excellent location at Pond #1 to facilitate fly fishing.

Depending on the level of interest and involvement, we may expand the training, we could provide more in depth information about, fly fishing covering: equipment, setup, knots, and techniques, flies, reading the stream, saltwater fishing and maybe even organize an outing or trip. We might even try some fly tying.

We will start off by having two different sessions, and then additional sessions will follow:
Weekend Sessions - Saturday: 4/30/22, 5/21/22time: 10 am –2 pm
Weekday Sessions - Thursday: 5/12/22, 5/19/22time: 6:00 pm – 8 pm

We will follow up with additional sessions and/or change session days or dates as desired. If this schedule doesn't work for you let us know and we can set up alternate times and dates.
